Shrimp cocktail

Enjoy your homemade shrimp cocktail! Adjust the seasonings and spiciness of the cocktail sauce according to your preference.

Ingredients

For the Shrimp:

  • 1 pound about 450g large shrimp, peeled and deveined (tails on or off, depending on preference)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Lemon slices for boiling

For the cocktail sauce:

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons prepared horseradish
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Tabasco sauce to taste (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Prepare the Shrimp

  • Fill a large pot with water and add salt and a few lemon slices for flavor.
  • Bring the water to a boil over high heat.
  • Once boiling, add the shrimp to the pot.
  • Cook the shrimp for 2-3 minutes or until they turn pink and opaque.
  • Remove the shrimp from the pot and immediately transfer them to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process.
  • Once cooled, drain the shrimp and pat them dry with paper towels. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Make the Cocktail Sauce

  • In a small bowl, combine the ketchup, horseradish, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and Tabasco sauce (if using).
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Stir well to combine. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  • Transfer the cocktail sauce to a serving bowl and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Assemble the Shrimp Cocktail:

  • Arrange the chilled shrimp on a serving platter or individual cocktail glasses.
  • Place a small bowl of the cocktail sauce in the center of the platter or distribute it among the cocktail glasses.
  • Garnish with lemon wedges and fresh parsley, if desired.
  • Serve immediately as an appetizer or part of a seafood spread.
