Old fashioned
The Old Fashioned is a timeless and sophisticated cocktail that is cherished for its simplicity and rich flavour profile. The drink is served in a lowball glass, also known as an Old Fashioned glass or rocks glass, over ice. The Old Fashioned is revered for its balanced blend of sweetness, bitterness, and spirit, making it a beloved classic cocktail enjoyed by many around the world.
- 2 oz 60 ml whiskey (bourbon or rye)
- 1 sugar cube or 1/2 oz 15 ml simple syrup
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- Orange peel or lemon twist for garnish
- Ice cubes
Place the sugar cube in an Old Fashioned glass (also known as a rocks glass).
Add the Angostura bitters onto the sugar cube. If you're using simple syrup instead of a sugar cube, you can skip this step.
Muddle the sugar cube with the bitters until it's dissolved. If using simple syrup, skip this step.
Add a few ice cubes to the glass.
Pour the whiskey over the ice.
Stir gently to mix the ingredients together and chill the drink.
Express the oils from the orange peel or lemon twist over the drink by holding it over the glass and giving it a slight twist to release the oils. Then drop the peel or twist into the glass as a garnish.
Optionally, you can add an additional ice cube or two to the glass if you prefer your drink colder.
