Shrimp cocktail
Enjoy your homemade shrimp cocktail! Adjust the seasonings and spiciness of the cocktail sauce according to your preference.
Ingredients
For the Shrimp:
- 1 pound about 450g large shrimp, peeled and deveined (tails on or off, depending on preference)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Lemon slices for boiling
For the cocktail sauce:
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons prepared horseradish
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Tabasco sauce to taste (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Prepare the Shrimp
- Fill a large pot with water and add salt and a few lemon slices for flavor.
- Bring the water to a boil over high heat.
- Once boiling, add the shrimp to the pot.
- Cook the shrimp for 2-3 minutes or until they turn pink and opaque.
- Remove the shrimp from the pot and immediately transfer them to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process.
- Once cooled, drain the shrimp and pat them dry with paper towels. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
Make the Cocktail Sauce
- In a small bowl, combine the ketchup, horseradish, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and Tabasco sauce (if using).
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Stir well to combine. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
- Transfer the cocktail sauce to a serving bowl and refrigerate until ready to serve.
Assemble the Shrimp Cocktail:
- Arrange the chilled shrimp on a serving platter or individual cocktail glasses.
- Place a small bowl of the cocktail sauce in the center of the platter or distribute it among the cocktail glasses.
- Garnish with lemon wedges and fresh parsley, if desired.
- Serve immediately as an appetizer or part of a seafood spread.
