Old fashioned

The Old Fashioned is a timeless and sophisticated cocktail that is cherished for its simplicity and rich flavour profile. The drink is served in a lowball glass, also known as an Old Fashioned glass or rocks glass, over ice. The Old Fashioned is revered for its balanced blend of sweetness, bitterness, and spirit, making it a beloved classic cocktail enjoyed by many around the world.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz 60 ml whiskey (bourbon or rye)
  • 1 sugar cube or 1/2 oz 15 ml simple syrup
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • Orange peel or lemon twist for garnish
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  • Place the sugar cube in an Old Fashioned glass (also known as a rocks glass).
  • Add the Angostura bitters onto the sugar cube. If you're using simple syrup instead of a sugar cube, you can skip this step.
  • Muddle the sugar cube with the bitters until it's dissolved. If using simple syrup, skip this step.
  • Add a few ice cubes to the glass.
  • Pour the whiskey over the ice.
  • Stir gently to mix the ingredients together and chill the drink.
  • Express the oils from the orange peel or lemon twist over the drink by holding it over the glass and giving it a slight twist to release the oils. Then drop the peel or twist into the glass as a garnish.
  • Optionally, you can add an additional ice cube or two to the glass if you prefer your drink colder.
