Firecracker meatballs are a delicious appetizer or main dish with a spicy kick. They are perfect for serving as an appetizer at parties or as a tasty main dish with rice or noodles. Enjoy the spicy-sweet flavor!
Ingredients
For the Firecracker meatballs:
- 1 pound ground beef or pork
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 1 egg
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
For the sauce:
- 1/2 cup hot sauce such as Frank's RedHot
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch optional, for thickening
- For garnish:
- Thinly sliced green onions
- Sesame seeds
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine all the ingredients for the meatballs: ground meat, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, egg, minced garlic, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter, and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until cooked through and browned on the outside.
- While the meatballs are baking, prepare the sauce. In a small saucepan, combine the hot sauce, honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, minced ginger, and minced garlic. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
- If you prefer a thicker sauce, you can mix the cornstarch with a tablespoon of water to make a slurry and stir it into the sauce. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Once the meatballs are cooked, transfer them to a large bowl and pour the hot sauce over them. Toss gently to coat the meatballs evenly with the sauce.
- Garnish the firecracker meatballs with thinly sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
