Ice cream

Ice cream is a popular frozen dessert made from a mixture of cream, milk, sugar, and flavorings, churned together to create a smooth, creamy texture. Originating as a luxury treat in ancient China and Persia, ice cream has evolved into a beloved global indulgence available in a myriad of flavors, from classic vanilla and chocolate to innovative combinations like salted caramel and matcha green tea. It can be enjoyed in various forms, including scoops, sundaes, cones, and sandwiches, making it a versatile and delightful treat for all ages and occasions.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups 480ml heavy cream
  • 1 cup 240ml whole milk
  • 3/4 cup 150g granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

Mix Ingredients:

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, whole milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Whisk until the sugar is fully dissolved.

Chill Mixture:

  • Cover the mixture and place it in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or overnight. Chilling the mixture helps develop the flavors and ensures it freezes better.

Prepare for Freezing:

  • With Ice Cream Maker: Pour the chilled mixture into your ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.

Without Ice Cream Maker:

  • Pour the chilled mixture into a shallow, freezer-safe dish or pan.
  • Place the dish in the freezer. After about 45 minutes, remove it and stir the mixture vigorously with a whisk, spatula, or fork to break up any ice crystals. Return it to the freezer.
  • Continue to stir the mixture every 30 minutes for 2-3 hours, until the ice cream is firm and creamy.
  • Freeze Until Firm: Once the ice cream reaches the desired consistency, transfer it to an airtight container and freeze for at least 2 more hours to firm up.

Serve:

  • Scoop the ice cream into bowls or cones and enjoy! You can also add toppings like chocolate syrup, sprinkles, or fresh fruit.
