Mozzarella sticks

Mozzarella sticks are a classic appetizer loved by many. Enjoy your homemade mozzarella sticks as a delicious appetizer or snack!

Ingredients
  

  • 12 mozzarella string cheese sticks
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • 1 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Marinara sauce for dipping

Instructions
 

Prepare the breading station:

  • In three separate shallow bowls, place the flour in one, beaten eggs in another, and combine breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, dried oregano, dried basil, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper in the third bowl. Mix the breadcrumb mixture well to combine all the seasonings evenly.

Prepare the mozzarella sticks:

  • Remove the mozzarella string cheese sticks from their packaging and cut them in half to make 24 shorter sticks. This step is optional, but it can make handling and frying easier.

Coat the mozzarella sticks:

  • Dredge each mozzarella stick in the flour, shaking off any excess.
  • Dip the floured stick into the beaten eggs, ensuring it's evenly coated.
  • Roll the egg-coated stick in the seasoned breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere the breadcrumbs.

Double coat (Optional):

  • If you prefer an extra crispy coating, you can repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating process once more after the first coating has dried.

Freeze the mozzarella sticks:

  • Place the coated mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze them for at least 30 minutes. This step helps the coating adhere better during frying.

Heat the oil:

  • In a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

Fry the mozzarella sticks:

  • Carefully lower a few frozen mozzarella sticks into the hot oil, being cautious not to overcrowd the pot. Fry them for about 2-3 minutes until they are golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove the fried mozzarella sticks from the oil using a slotted spoon and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Repeat the frying process with the remaining mozzarella sticks.

Serve:

  • Serve the crispy mozzarella sticks hot with marinara sauce for dipping.
